Track and Field - Competition Against Myself

For the love of sport, let's compete!

2017 USA Masters Track and Field Championships
"Like a tourist sneaking up on Bison in Yellowstone, a brave onlooker approach a small herd of large discus throwers at the 2016 USA Masters Championships in Michigan. Be careful young lady!"

Cayden was not very big, or athletic for his age, while most of the athletes his age had already gone through that growth spurt that moves them from boy to man. As a result Cayden was significantly  weaker, slower, and less athletic than his competition. But, in our coaching we helped Cayden develop his secret weapon. Using his secret weapon Cayden earned a medal and earned his way to the awards Podium.  Best of all, Cayden's secret weapon is available to everyone. It's called fun, it's called joy, it's called gratitude for even being able to participate in the competition.

Let's face it Health and Fitness is not guaranteed to anyone. In a flash it can be gone.  Enjoy it while you are blessed enough to be healthy enough.

I have been very blessed.  In my mid 30s to early 40's I was a wreck. Back Operation, over 300 lbs.  Now in my 50's I am able to compete in Masters Basketball and Track and Field.  Much of this is due to a new approach to fitness. One that did not interfere with my desire to work long days.

The photo above is of the Masters Track and Field meet in 2016. I am the one in the Michigan Wolverines shirt and this is the 55-59 age division.   Competition at this age is a blast and something for which to be very grateful.  But it's also a battle of attrition.  Of the five Discus Throwers in the picture I was the only one to return to compete in thr 2017 Masters Track and Field Championships. Athletes like four of my friendly competitors shown above are all too often knocked out of ongoing competion by infjury, stiffness, buisy schedules, etc.

Too often we expect ourselves to maintain the same vigorous training of 1,2, or even 3 hours a day while we also assume more and more responsibilities in our careers and communities.  No wonder we simply quit being active and engaging in friendly competion,  Something has to give.

Luckily or my the NERDbody WorkPlace Fitness Program allowed me to improve my fitness,  build my strength, and ironically I even get to the gym once a week.

BTW:  I couldn't even play basketball or compete in track and field in my early 40s. Now at age 56 I have won 5 consecutive USA Masters National Championship Track and Field Titles, set an age group American Record.  The common sense and science behind the NERDbody Workplace Fitness Program really works and I am having a blast!
